- The Spartans went 2-1 over a three-game homestand. Now they head on the road where they have lost three in a row and five of their last six. Over those six games, MSU has gone 1-5 against the spread.
- The Boilermakers are 8-1 at home. Among the eight victories are wins against current-No. 4 Ohio State and three-possession triumphs over Minnesota and Penn State. The latter two teams rank considerably higher than MSU in the overall ratings.
- Michigan State has availability question marks with two of its guards. Junior G Foster Loyer (shoulder) is questionable and sophomore G Rocket Watts (illness) is probable. They are responsible for a combined 12.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

The home five have gone 4-1-1 ATS over the last six series meetings.
Against Wisconsin and Ohio State - two other slow-tempo Big Ten teams - MSU has gone 0-2 with an average ATS deficit of 11.5 points. The Boilermakers are a better rebounding team than the Badgers and Buckeyes.
