- The Wildcats earned the No. 1 seed by way of an 11-4 mark in conference play. Villanova is coming off a 54-52 loss at Providence Saturday and has lost two of its last three games. 'Nova defeated Georgetown twice this season, by margins of 13 and 10 points.
- The Hoyas advanced to the quarterfinal after a 68-49 win over Marquette Wednesday afternoon. Georgetown outscored the Golden Eagles 16-2 at the free-throw line and outrebounded them, 46-32. GU - now 5-2 over its last seven games - is playing on back-to-back days for the first time this season.
- Villanova is dealing with a couple of crucial and ill-timed injuries. Senior G Collin Gillespie (14.0 points per game) tore an MCL in a win over Creighton March 3. The following game (a March 6 loss to Providence) saw the Wildcats lose sophomore G Justin Moore (12.7 PPG) to an ankle injury. Gillespie is out for the season; Moore is doubtful for Thursday.
