Houston Rockets at Brooklyn Nets odds, picks and prediction

USA Today Sportsbookwire

The Brooklyn Nets (32-15) host the Houston Rockets (13-33) Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. ET at Barclays Center. Below, we analyze the Rockets-Nets odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Houston has lost three of four games (1-3 against the spread) since snapping its epically bad 20-game ( 2-18 ATS) losing skid March 22 with the latest being a 120-110 loss against the Memphis Grizzlies as 8-point home underdogs Monday.

The Nets have won four of five-the only loss being on the road to the Utah Jazz without any of the Big 3-and eight of the last 12 games. However, Brooklyn has only covered three of those 10 games.

Brooklyn hammered Houston in the first meeting this season 132-114 with both James Harden and Kyrie Irving in the lineup. It was Harden's first game against his former team and he dropped a 29-10-14 triple-double.

Rockets at Nets: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nets 120, Rockets 114

Money line (ML)

PASS with a LEAN towards Rockets (+750) since I'm taking Houston to cover the spread, and that payout is pretty juicy. This game means a lot more for the Rockets than the Nets, but I'd rather just take Houston ATS.

Against the spread (ATS)

There's really no statistical argument for Houston beating Brooklyn tonight, but the talent of the two teams is accounted for in the line, and I'm higher on the Rockets than the market.

Houston got better when they sent Victor Oladipo to Miami Heat for big Kelly Olynyk, who was 2nd on the team in on-off net rating.

Olynyk and the return of Wood give Houston two bigs that can stretch the floor with their outside shooting.

Also, the departure of Oladipo opens more playing time for talented second-year guard Kevin Porter Jr.

Brooklyn is continuing its winning ways post-All-Star game, but they are just 3-7 ATS in the past 10 games and the Rockets can score enough points to keep this one close.

Wait for the final injury report since Wall is questionable otherwise I think Wood and Olynyk will open driving lanes for Houston's backcourt.

BET ROCKETS +12.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Slight LEAN to OVER 230.5 (-110) for a quarter-unit because theoretically the Nets' offense is unstoppable, but actually they haven't scored more than 116 points in the past six contests (1-5 O/U).

But, my read is both offenses get buckets tonight, and betting Unders in Brooklyn games is the height of gambling in today's NBA.
