Fantasy football draft: Where to target Jacksonville Jaguars RB James Robinson

Joe Williams
Sportsbook Wire

Jacksonville Jaguars RB James Robinson saw his fantasy appeal take two major hits during the offseason, as the team drafted RB Travis Etienne in the first round, while also added RB Carlos Hyde . Below, we look at Etienne's 2021 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

The early indications from Northeast Florida is that the Jaguars plan to use Robinson and Hyde on early downs with Etienne serving as the third-down back in passing situations.

The good news is that Robinson is believed to be the better option in pass blocking, too, so he should still see plenty of the field while new head coach Urban Meyer eases the rookie Etienne into action.

Meyer is committed to the run and wants to be in the Top 10 in the category. So Robinson should see plenty of early returns. The concern is the presence of the 31-year-old Hyde and how quickly Etienne matures.

Robinson is a handcuff for all fantasy managers drafting Etienne. It's a rather full boat in the Jacksonville backfield, and there are plenty of concerns. However, the early indications are that Robinson will lead the backfield to start the regular season with Hyde also factoring in for carries. Etienne will be the back on third down initially. The news isn't all doom and gloom for Robinson, for now.

Where should you take Robinson in your fantasy football draft?

Initially, it looked like Robinson might have suffered the worst damage to his fantasy value of any player in the NFL during the offseason.

However, Robinson could be quite a value with a pick in Round 7 or 8 while other fantasy managers grab Etienne before him based on his first-round status. Robinson has been the 36th running back off the board in most fantasy formats, and that could make him a steal.

Robinson isn't a bust as he came out of nowhere to post a 1,000-yard rushing season last year while also posting 49 grabs out of the backfield. He can do it all, and that allows Meyer to take it slow with Etienne. And Robinson isn't 31, which is the issue with Hyde. He has bounced around and is no longer a workhorse. While everyone else is shying away from Robinson, I see him as a huge value if he slides on draft day.
