Fantasy football draft: Where to target New England Patriots TE Jonnu Smith
New England Patriots TE Jonnu Smith finds himself in a new offense and a new organization for 2021. Below, we look at Smith's 2021 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.
Smith heads to Foxboro, Mass., and he will team with fellow newcomer Hunter Henry for one of the best one-two punches at the position for the Patriots since they had both Rob Gronkowski and the late Aaron Hernandez at the tight end spot from 2010-12.

Smith and Henry (average pick - 138.63) have been the 15th and 16th tight ends plucked off the board on draft day. It will be interesting to see which tight end QBs Cam Newton and Mac Jones take a shine to during training camp and the preseason, but both are likely see a significant role in head coach Bill Belichick's revamped offense.

Where should you take Jonnu Smith in your fantasy football draft?
Smith posted career highs across the board in receptions, targets, receiving yardage, touchdowns, first downs and even his longest play from scrimmage. It was a nice season in Nashville in 2020, and he played it into a nice payday.
It's a little worrisome that the Patriots also have Henry on the roster. If Smith were the only notable tight end, he'd crush it in 2021. But he has to share a piece of the pie, and a timeshare is not what fantasy managers like to see. One game he might roll up a huge stat line, and another he might be used as a blocker. Belichick doesn't much care about the feelings of fantasy managers as he is trying to win ball games.
Smith is a threat in the red zone, and occasionally he'll show flashes of TE1 ability. Other weeks he'll drop those one-catch, 10-yard lines that have fantasy managers pulling out their hair.
He and Henry actually should both start departing the draft board in Round 10 and after.
