Fantasy football draft: Where to target Detroit Lions TE T.J. Hockenson

Detroit Lions TE T.J. Hockenson heads into the 2021 NFL season with big-time expectations. Below, we look at Hockenson's 2021 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Hockenson played all 16 games in 2020 with the Lions, and he was a vital part of the team's offense in the red zone. He tripled his previous career high in touchdowns with six scores after just two in his rookie season of 2019. Can he take another big step forward in Year No. 3?

Hockenson has been the fifth or sixth tight end taken off the board, right in the same area as Baltimore Ravens TE Mark Andrews (average pick - 48.76). The two represent a middle tier, or consolation prize, after the first three or four must-start fantasy options are off the board.

Where should you take T.J. Hockenson in your fantasy football draft?

Hockenson has routinely showed up in the Top 5 of fantasy rankings, and it likely has a lot to do with his 101 targets in 2020. We'll see a change under center this season going from Matthew Stafford to Jared Goff.

Hockenson is in good hands with offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn, who really liked to use the tight ends in his time as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. And it helps Hockenson's fantasy value that the team lost WRs Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones. So the Pro Bowl tight end might be leaned upon rather heavily early on.

Hockenson is worth taking at the end of Round 4 in standard play, and a little earlier in PPR leagues, especially if you miss out on the likes of the "Big Three" at the position earlier or Atlanta's Kyle Pitts a round before.

Hockenson is going to be forced to do a lot of the heavy lifting as WRs Quintez Cephus, Breshad Perriman, Kalif Raymond, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Tyrell Williams aren't exactly the scariest wide receiver corps in the NFL.
