Fantasy football draft: Where to target Arizona Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds

Jess Root
Sportsbook Wire

Arizona Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds saw his workload on offense double in 2020 and, while he was not a starter, he was a key component to their offense last season. He had 850 total yards of offense and scored five touchdowns, playing as a complementary back to Kenyan Drake.

Now that Drake left for the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency, Edmonds is poised to be the Cardinals' starting and lead running back in 2021, which will increase his fantasy value.

Below, we look at Chase Edmonds' 2021 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Edmonds' ADP: 66.19 overall

Edmonds' ADP ranks 88th among all offensive players. He is owned in 54% of leagues and where owners are drafting him has a lot of variance. He is selected as high at ninth overall and as low as 125th.

Among running backs, he is ranked 29th, sandwiched between Atlanta Falcons RB Mike Davis (28th), and New England Patriots rookie RB Rhamondre Stevenson (30th).

Touchdowns: 1 rushing, 4 receiving

Where should you take Edmonds in your fantasy football draft?

Edmonds is tough to project. He will share the load with fellow RB James Conner but should have a greater role, especially in the passing game. That makes Edmonds valuable in PPR leagues. I project him to have about 1,500 total yards combined between rushing and receiving.

The touchdowns are tough. He is a big-play threat in both the run and pass game, but he might not get as much use near the goal line. Arizona brought in Conner because of his size and QB Kyler Murray is a big threat to score.

Edmonds could be a major sleeper, which is why he does get some early looks. Fantasy owners see how Drake had 18 rushing TDs in 23 games for the Cards and they think Edmonds will slide right in.

It won't be that way.

Edmonds will have value, but don't overvalue him. He is worth waiting until the fourth or fifth round.
