2022 Wells Fargo Championship odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

The PGA Tour is back in the states this week after Jon Rahm claimed the Mexico Open title Sunday. Up next on the schedule is the Wells Fargo Championship, which starts Thursday morning. Below, we look at the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

This is a stronger field than the one that teed it up in Mexico last week, even with Rahm not playing. Defending Wells Fargo champion Rory McIlroy headlines the field, his first event since making a Sunday push at last month's Masters. Corey Conners, Tony Finau, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton are also teeing it up this week, attempting to dethrone McIlroy.

The PGA Tour relocated the Wells Fargo Championship from Quail Hollow to TPC Potomac for 2022. Quail Hollow will host the Presidents Cup in September, so the Charlotte, N.C., course is preparing for that event.

TPC Potomac last held a tour event in 2018 when the Quicken Loans National was played there, a tournament hosted by Tiger Woods and won by Francesco Molinari. It's 7,160 yards and plays to a par 70 after undergoing a major renovation in 2015.

Rory McIlroy (+700)

I went with the favorite last week (Rahm) and I'm going chalk again this week. McIlroy isn't as heavy of a favorite as Rahm was, but at +700, he's clearly the top pick with the next-closest player sitting at +2000.

This is his first time teeing it up since shooting a final-round 64 at the Masters, which tied the final-day record for the lowest score at Augusta. He left that round feeling as happy as he's ever been on a golf course, a great sign for his confidence moving forward.

He won the Wells Fargo Championship last year, albeit at Quail Hollow, but this could be the start of a hot stretch for the high-powered 32-year-old with the PGA Championship just 2 weeks away.

2022 Wells Fargo Championship picks - Contender

Keith Mitchell (+4000)

In his last 3 appearances at the Wells Fargo Championship, Mitchell tied for 3rd, 8th and 34th. Again, this event won't be played at Quail Hollow like it was during that stretch, but he's played well this season with 7 top 25s and 4 top-10 finishes.

His accuracy and consistency off the tee (2nd in strokes gained: off the tee) will put him in position to go after pins this week on a shorter course.

2022 Wells Fargo Championship picks - Long shot

Luke List (+10000)

List has been in a dry spell since February, only making the cut once in his last 5 starts at a stroke play event. That's why his odds are so long, but for a player who had 4 consecutive top 25s and 3 top-12 finishes in 4 weeks earlier this season, I'm willing to bet he turns it around at some point.

This could be the week he gets back on track, but it will almost entirely come down to the flat stick; he's 207th in strokes gained: putting, but 4th in tee-to-green, which is about as stark a contrast as you'll see from anyone on tour.
