  • Two spots remain for the season-ending event, Nov. 5-12 in London
  • Juan Martin del Potro and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga lead the race for the remaining spots

Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, coming off a victory Sunday in the Stockholm Open, has secured a spot in the Barclays ATP World Finals.

Berdych becomes the sixth qualifier for the elite eight-man field for the ATP's season-ending event, Nov. 5-12 at the 02 Arena in London.

Berdych joins Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer who have qualified, leaving two singles spots up for grabs. Nadal, who is recovering from a knee injury, is unlikely to play.

Berdych, who reached the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals last year, will be making his third consecutive appearance. In 2012 Berdych -- ranked No. 6 -- has won two ATP titles (Open Sud de France, Stockholm). The current World No. 6 also reached the final in Madrid and Winston-Salem, and he was a semifinalist at the U.S. Open.

"London is always a goal every season. You have to play well the whole year to qualify. It will be special for me to play there for the third year in a row," said Berdych.

Brad Drewett, ATP Executive Chairman & President, said: "I'd like to congratulate Tomas on having qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for a third consecutive season. In recent years, Tomas has firmly established himself at the highest level on the ATP World Tour and his qualification provides confirmation of another outstanding season in 2012."

In doubles, Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez have claimed their place at the season-ending event for the first time, becoming the sixth team to qualify. So far this season, the Spanish duo has captured ATP World Tour titles at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome and at the Credit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad. They join Bob and Mike Bryan, Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau, Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek, and Jonathan Marray and Frederik Nielsen as doubles qualifiers, leaving just two doubles team berths up for grabs.
