Former Heisman Trophy winner and Cleveland Browns first-round draft pick Johnny Manziel on Saturday morning tweeted interest in joining the XFL shortly before deleting his account, according to Pro Football Talk.

The 27-year-old quarterback directed his message to the league's commissioner, Oliver Luck, and wrote that signing him to a contract would boost the XFL's popularity.

Manziel tweeted, via Pro Football Talk: "Oliver Luck. "If ya wanna boost your ratings to another level just send me the contract tomorrow and we’re in there. Like I said YEARS ago… XFL2020 give the people what they want."

However, Manziel wasn't willing to join the league just a couple of weeks ago before the start of the season, then tweeting, "ComebackSZN still alive if y’all ain’t know. Just not playing for another league that’s going to fold on you midway through the season."

The other league Manziel referenced was the failed Alliance of American Football (AAF). The upstart league existed for just eight games in early 2019 before folding. Manziel signed in March and played two games for the Memphis Express, notching 61 passing yards, one interception and a 1-1 record.

He joined the AAF after being released by the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes, whom he joined in the summer of 2018. In 11 CFL games, he completed 64.2 percent of this throws for 1,290 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions, while also rushing for 215 yards.

He was then kicked out of the league for violating the terms of his contract.

Manziel was selected 22nd overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2014 NFL draft. He appeared in 15 games, starting eight, and tallied 1,675 yards, seven touchdowns and seven picks with a 57 percent completion rate. The Browns released him in 2016 after numerous off-the-field incidents.

Manziel's peak came in two full seasons at Texas A&M. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2012 and was a finalist in 2013. He accumulated over 10,000 yards from scrimmage and 93 total touchdowns in his college career, leading the Aggies to a 20-4 overall record with one of the nation's best offenses.
