SAN FRANCISCO - Developer season is in full swing.

Microsoft started it in March with Build, Facebook took San Francisco by storm this week with F8, and Google is next on the calendar with the I/0 conference in Mountain View on May 18. Apple will follow in early June with the Worldwide Developer's Conference.

People watch the keynote address at the F8 Facebook Developer Conference.

Facebook hosted over 2,000 developers who create apps, bots and other software on the Facebook platform, and the subtext of its meetup was no different than the others--we are the best, strongest, hippest company out there--work with us.

Going beyond the headlines, USA TODAY San Francisco bureau chief Jon Swartz and digital reporter Natalie DiBlasio sat down with me for this week's #TalkingTech Roundtable podcast. Listen in for a very different viewpoint. This was DiBlasio's first developer conference, and she went in with wide, overwhelmed eyes, while Swartz and I are veterans who have covered many a session.

ICYMI, Facebook's big announcement this week was that apps were yesterday, and automated chat bots were the future. Businesses are coming to Facebook Messenger in a big way--catch the video.

And if you have some spare free time this weekend, check out my audio tour of three days in back to back visits at Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and GoPro. It's a fun listen.
