  • mOna iPad stand is a work of modernist art

Mini tripod provides on-the-go setups

A micro-sized tripod with a rotating, tilt-able base can help you set up great photos when you're traveling light. Designed for compact digital cameras and Flip-style recorders weighing less than seven ounces, the Tiltpod is tiny enough to clip to the included camera wrist strap. Depending on your needs, you can attach a stick-on pivot or a screw-on pivot to the camera. When you're ready to shoot, you place the pivot on the Tiltpod's magnetic base and rotate and tilt the camera to frame the perfect shot.
Gomite also makes a Tiltpod Mobile for the iPhone 4/4s. This model includes a key ring to hold the Tiltpod, an iPhone 4/4S adapter and the magnetic base. Although Gomite says its Tiltpod can handle both portrait and landscape orientations, the iPhone seemed a bit shaky when placed upright, which is worrisome since the tripod only works when the phone's protective case is removed. When positioned horizontally on the Tiltpod, however, the iPhone 4/4S seemed sturdy enough for outdoor shooting.
Both versions cost about $15.

The JBL Flip speaker is available in black or white for $100.

Speaker flips up or down

Looking for a Bluetooth speaker compact enough to stuff in a backpack but powerful enough to fill a room with thumping beats? The JBL Flip is worth a listen. Capable of standing upright or resting on its side, the tubular-shaped speaker with a built-in bass port produces decent sound, even when the volume is pumped up. Need to take a phone call? The speaker has a built-in microphone and call-answer button that lets you handle incoming calls without picking up your phone. Like many speakerphones, however, the sound is somewhat muddled. Even so, the phone option is handy if your phone isn't in easy reach. Equipped with a five-hour lithium-ion rechargeable battery and an audio jack, the speaker ships with an AC adapter and a study zip-up carrying bag. Available in black or white, the JBL Flip costs about $100.

The mOna iPad stand is is available in white, red and black.

Stand props up iPad

Want to prop up your iPad with a stand that looks like a small piece of modernist art? Take a look at mŌna, an iPad stand created by architect Brian Brisbin for kubxlab. Available in white, red and black, the seven-inch stand has two thin legs with silicone grips that can hold your iPad in three different positions: portrait for reading, landscape for viewing movies and incline for a titled view on a desk. It costs about $30.
