An era is coming to an end -- the Barack Obama fundraising era.
In one last fundraising pitch, Obama told backers in a Wednesday e-mail that "tonight is the final FEC (Federal Election Commission) fundraising deadline of this campaign."
He added: "For me as a candidate, it's my last FEC deadline ever."
Election Day is Nov . 6. Even if he defeats Republican challenger Mitt Romney, Obama would be bound by the two-term limit for presidents.
Obama, who has broken all sorts of fundraising records in his two presidential runs, also tells donors:
"I know we've asked a lot of you these last 18 months. But it would mean a lot to me if you could join the more than 4 million Americans who've already stepped up to build this campaign, and chip in today.
"Any donation, no matter how large or small, makes a difference -- to me, to the thousands of volunteers and organizers out there working to bring this election home, and to the millions of Americans counting on us.
"If you can, please make a donation of $5 or more before midnight:

"Thank you -- for everything.
Barack"
