Axelrod: I'll shave if Obama loses Pa., Mich. or Minn.

David Axelrod is putting his mustache where his mouth is.

The veteran adviser to President Obama says he will cut off his treasured mustache if Obama loses any of the Democratic-leaning states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Minnesota in next week's election.

"I will come on Morning Joe and I will shave off my mustache of 40 years if we lose any of those three states," Axelrod said Wednesday on the MSNBC morning program.

Speaking with a reporters later, Axelrod joked that his 'stache is "my most valuable asset."

And, sure enough, Axelrod's Mustache now has its own Twitter account.

New polls show Republican challenger Mitt Romney within striking distance in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Minnesota, but Axelrod is confident that will all break for Obama.

But wait! There's more!

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, said he will grow a mustache if Obama carries either Florida or North Carolina.

Said Axelrod to Scarborough: "After the election you aren't going to have that much to talk about so people can tune in every day and watch your mustache grow."

In his session with reporters, Axelrod expressed confidence about other swing states -- but not to the point of risking any facial hair.

"I can only bet my mustache once, but I'm very confident at the end of the day we'll win Virginia," he said.
