N.J. Gov. Christie visits White House

A guest sighting Thursday at the White House: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Officials said Christie met with President Obama as well as White House chief of staff Jack Lew and other administration officials to discuss federal assistance for Hurricane Sandy recovery.

"I don't have a readout for you of the meeting" with Obama, said White House spokesman Jay Carney.

The visit comes amid reports that Obama will soon ask Congress for around $50 billion in additional emergency aid for states hit by Superstorm Sandy in late October.

Carney declined to discuss the proposed aid package in detail, saying "the request is still being developed -- I don't have a number for you."

Spotted later at the U.S. Capitol, Christie also declined to comment on his meeting with Obama and other White House officials.

Christie, you'll recall, took criticism from fellow Republicans after praising Obama's response to the superstorm that struck little more than a week before the election.
