Former president George H.W. Bush may not make it home for Christmas.

Houston Methodist Hospital said Sunday that no release date is yet set for Bush, who has been in the hospital for a month with bronchial and respiratory problems.

"President Bush remains in stable condition in the hospital," said the statement from spokesman George Kovacik."His doctors feel he should build up his energy before going home.

"They remain optimistic about his full recovery and are being extra cautious with his care," Kovacik added. "No discharge date has been set at this time."

Bush, 88, has been in the hospital since Nov. 23 for treatment of a bronchitis-related cough.
