Mitt Romney is the latest figure to be targeted in one of Spirit Airlines' irreverent advertising campaigns.
In a fares promotion out this afternoon, Spirit Airlines tells would-be customers via e-mail that "We've got tons of binders full of sales."
Spirit follows with: "Women will love them!"
The ad, of course, is making reference to last night's (Oct. 16) presidential debate. In that debate, Republican candidate Romney responded to a question about pay equity for women with the following comment:
"I went to a number of women's groups and said, 'Can you help us find folks,' and they brought us whole binders full of women."
As for Spirit has, it has a long history of irreverent — and sometimes off-color — ads.
Most recently, Spirit took aim at rival American Airlines for its problems with seats coming loose on that AA's Boeing 757s. Spirit mocked AA by offering 7.57% off fares along with a tagline saying: "We let fares loose, not seats!"
Another recent target of a Spirit was former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, with the airline lampooning his affair while married to Maria Shriver. Spirit also has a long list of provocative ads, such as a recurring "Many Islands, Low Fares" sale that it touts with a sexually charged acronym.
