Virgin Atlantic's new Clubhouse at Newark Liberty International Airport has officially opened, joining its sister clubhouse at New York's JFK.
The new 5,000 square-foot space has a cocktail bar with crystal features, a Liquid Lounge for socializing, a "Passion Pit" with private pods, and a brasserie serving locally sourced foods.
There's even a screening room which shows films from graduates of the United Kingdom's National Film and Television School.
The Clubhouse is located after security checkpoints in Terminal B.
It is part of Virgin Atlantic's approximately $160 million investment in its Upper Class, or first class, product. The JFK clubhouse opened in March. A new Upper Class cabin on A330-300 aircraft debuted as well.
Designed by New York-based Slade Architecture and Virgin Atlantic's in-house designers, the Newark space is supposed to evoke New York City's downtown flair.
Today in the Sky has not visited the Newark clubhouse yet, but during a recent stop at the JFK clubhouse, travelers were lounging around drinking cocktails, tapping on laptops in private pods, or getting their hair done at the salon/spa. Even the bathrooms were carefully designed with artwork showing maps of New York.
