United Airlines is suspending its nonstop service between Pittsburgh and San Francisco for two months in early 2015.

The airline tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette it is not pulling out of the route, but rather suspending the service during the slower winter months. United will halt the nonstop service from Jan. 7 through March 5.

United spokeswoman Mary Clark tells the Post-Gazette that period is typically one of low demand.

"During this time period, our customers have access to connecting service between the two cities via our hubs," Clark says to the Post-Gazette.

United also flies from Pittsburgh to its hubs at Chicago O'Hare, Denver, Houston Bush Intercontinental, Newark Liberty and Washington Dulles.

United's move to seasonal service will leave Pittsburgh without nonstop service to San Francisco until United's flights resume in March.

United also had flown nonstop between Pittsburgh and Los Angeles, but it ended that route in August, according to the Post-Gazette. American still flies nonstop on that route, offering five flights a week.
