Now through May 13: Apply for TSA PreCheck at Chicago O'Hare

Business trekkers enrolled in TSA PreCheck tend to be happier with their flight as well, according to a new survey from the GBTA.

Airline passengers will be able to apply for membership in the Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck program at Chicago’s O’Hare airport through May 13.

PreCheck offers the possibility of expedited screening for fliers who are willing to be fingerprinted and undergo background checks. Those approved for membership gain access to special security lines in which they do not have to remove shoes and jackets at screening checkpoints. Similarly, laptops approved and approved liquid containers do not need to be presented separately for screening.

The PreCheck option has become extraordinarily popular with the frequent-flier set.

Despite that, membership in the PreCheck program has failed to meet the TSA’s projections. That’s been blamed as one of the causes behind a dramatic spike in security wait times at airports across the country.

'No relief in sight' for long TSA lines

TSA PreCheck a boon for business travelers

The temporary O’Hare airport application center is in addition to five other PreCheck application sites in greater Chicago.

Those wanting to join must answer pre-enrollment questions online at tsa.gov and then visit an application center to provide more information, documents and fingerprints. The fee is $85 for a five-year membership.
