A cloudy, soggy Earth Day is expected for much of the East, while another storm will bring rain and even some snow to the Northwest.

East: Though the entire day won't be a washout, rain and thunderstorms will drench the East as a cold front slides through the region.

Northwest: Late-April snow will whiten the Cascades and northern Rockies on Tuesday. Rain will also fall along the Pacific Northwest coast and in the central Rockies. Temperatures will stay in the chilly 40s.

Southwest: Hot, dry winds will lead to a high danger of wildfires in the Southwest. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph in southern California.

Weather history for April 22: In 1980, the temperature rose to 100 degrees in Waterloo, Iowa, a state high temperature record for the month. In 1986, 1 inch of snow fell in both Detroit and Pittsburgh.

In 1997, winds gusted as high as 144 mph at Barksdale AFB in Louisiana.
