While a few spots in the northern U.S. deal with chilly temperatures and even snow, most of the southern tier will be warm and pleasant, except for southern Texas.

East: Snow will fly in northern New England and northern New York State Friday morning. Some spots in Maine could see a foot of snow. Rain will fall in the rest of the Northeast.

The rest of the East Coast will be mild and dry.

Central U.S.: Light rain and snow is likely in the upper Midwest. Most of the central Plains will be pleasant and sunny, but far southern Texas will have rain and some flooding.

West: The West will be dry and warm on Friday, other than the northern Rockies, where light snow and rain will fall.

Weather history for Nov. 7: In 1916, a snowstorm delayed the results of the Presidential election; Charles Hughes was thought the
victor, but late votes favored Woodrow Wilson. In 1957, tornadoes hit Louisiana, killing 21 people.

In 2009, Oshkosh, Wis., hit a record high temperature of 70 degrees. In 2012, a foot of snow fell in Manchester Township, N.J.
