Unusual cold for November will again be the main story for much of the country on Friday, while a sprawling winter storm wallops portions of the West.

West: A large winter storm will continue to bring snow, ice, and rain to the Northwest and Rockies on Friday. The heaviest snow will be in the higher elevations of Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. Rain will fall along coastal California and Oregon.

Central U.S.: Most of the Plains and Midwest will be clear and cold on Friday, though lake-effect snow will fly around the Great Lakes. Some light showers are possible along the Texas GUlf Coast.

East: The Northeast and New England will see some morning snow, but the rest of the East Coast should be mainly dry and cool. The Southeast and Florida will be mild and clear.

Weather history for Nov. 14: In 1969, the Apollo 12 rocket was struck by lightning twice after liftoff, temporarily shutting down its computers. In 1989, a record high temperature of 87 degrees was recorded in Dallas.

In 1995, an early season nor'easter slammed the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic with heavy rain and snow and high winds.
