Methodology
We rated the largest internet providers in the U.S. for 2024. Each provider was rated on a scale of 1 to 5 based on over a dozen factors, including speed, cost, availability, fees, customer satisfaction, connection type and more. We also used data from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to compare the average speed offered by internet companies in the U.S. to set a baseline for what is considered a good internet speed. Additionally, we analyzed data from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) to understand how each internet service provider (ISP) fares in customer service and perceived value.
How to choose a provider in Austin, TX
Austin has more available broadband providers than most areas. The first step in choosing an internet provider is figuring out which companies cover your address. You can check availability on this page by calling or selecting “check availability.”
Once you find the home internet providers near you, you can compare the details to decide on the best plan. Here are some tips and tricks for selecting the best Austin internet deal:
Decide on a price range. Many internet plans will begin at a cheaper price and increase after 12 or 24 months. Ensure that your plan’s standard rate is still in your budget. Some providers that offer great price stability without scheduled price increases include AT&T, Verizon 5G Home and Google Fiber.
Select your preferred connection type and speed. The best connection type depends on the speed you need for your internet activities and the number of connected devices. Fast cable and fiber plans can typically support the highest number of devices. Cable plans are often cheaper than fiber, but upload speeds are a fraction of the download speeds. Fiber offers symmetrical upload and download speeds, good for uploading photos, video files or large email attachments. 5G internet is simple to install and can often be bundled with a wireless plan for a discounted price.
Choose an internet plan and sign up. After comparing plans from the available providers in your area, choose the internet plan that fits your needs. You can select a plan and get an installation date by checking availability on this page.
Austin internet provider reviews
Read on for more details on fees, contracts, deals and other pros and cons of Austin’s best internet providers here. Austin ISPs have many high-speed gigabit plans; however, for the average household, speeds over 1 GB are excessive for the average internet user and only necessary for the ultra-connected households.
Avoid paying for more than you need in Austin by checking out mid-tier cable internet plans from Spectrum and Astound Broadband plans guaranteed for 24 months. For fiber deals, AT&T and Google Fiber don’t have scheduled price increases and include equipment at no extra charge.
Spectrum – Cheap unlimited plans

This provider also doesn’t tack on many extra fees, as equipment and unlimited data are included.
Other ongoing AT&T offers include free installation (normally $99) for the 2 and 5 GB plans and free self-installation for all other speeds. Also, AT&T will pay your cancellation fee if you switch from an ISP with an early termination fee (ETF). You must provide proof to receive a reward card of the approximate ETF value.

T-Mobile 5G Home – Most available 5G
Overall score: 4.1 out of 5.
One of T-Mobile 5G internet’s best qualities is the wide availability of the network. T-Mobile covers over half of Austin, TX, 53% of Texas and 58% of the nation, making it easy to keep the same provider if you move. Setting up home Wi-Fi with T-Mobile is as easy as plugging in the provided gateway to an electrical outlet.
The maximum speed for T-Mobile 5G internet is 245 Mbps. Like all fixed wireless services, speeds vary based on your location and local network congestion, which could be bothersome if you rely on more consistent speeds for work or competitive gaming. Plans start at $60/mo., or you can bundle with a qualifying wireless plan for a $10–$20/mo. discount. Plans are unlimited and contract-free.

Google Fiber – Fastest speeds
Overall score: 3.8 out of 5.
Google Fiber provides three of the fastest plans available in Austin, TX, and is the only other fiber internet provider in the area besides AT&T. Google Fiber is available in Sunset Valley, Waterloo, Granada Estates, East Riverside-Oltorf, Cherrywood and Windsor Park and other eastern and southern areas, but covers less than half of the city overall.

However, bundling with a qualifying phone plan drops the internet price to $35/mo. and $45/mo. respectively.

Astound Broadband – Best value
Overall score: 4 out of 5.
Astound Broadband’s four cable internet plans are all priced under $60/mo., making them a great value for home Wi-Fi. The 600 Mbps, 1 GB and 1.5 GB plans have a two-year price guarantee, while the 300 Mbps plan is guaranteed for one year. All plans have free installation and equipment. Astound Broadband is available in neighborhoods around Franklin Park, Clarksville Historic District, Windsor Park, Brentwood and University Hills.
However, heavy internet users should know that some Astound Broadband plans have data limitations. The 300 Mbps plan has a monthly data allowance of 500 GB, and the 600 Mbps plan limit is 1 TB. Going over the data allowance incurs a $6.50 fee for each block of 25 GB. All other plans are unlimited.
