Several episodes of this 1990s NBC sitcom directly address race relations, but this spin-off of "The Cosby Show" more broadly portrays the Black college experience at Hillman College, an HBCU, or historically Black college or university.

Tuskegee Airmen:

This one-hour documentary the first Black military pilots premieres on Feb. 10 (8 EST/PST). It’s produced and narrated by "Good Morning America" host Robin Roberts, who was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, and whose father Col. Lawrence E. Roberts was one such pilot.

Amend: The Fight for America

Hosted by Will Smith, this six-part Netflix series (streaming Feb. 17) explores the 14th amendment’s promises of due process and equal protection under the laws to "all persons born or naturalized in the United States" from the 1860s until now.

Insecure

"Insecure" shows Black millennials as their authentic selves, with a diversity of characters. Issa Rae’s HBO dramedy is unapologetically Black and has done what many others have failed to do – show the humanity of Black people.

The Black Church:

This is Our Story, This is Our Song

Hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr., this documentary tells the history of the Black Church in America and its significant role in Black people's lives. (Feb. 16 and 17)

Dear White People

This series follows a group of Black students at a predominantly white university. Although it’s satire, it shows how, even when Black people "make it," they are still met with reminders that they don't belong.

When They See Us

This four-part miniseries tells the story of the wrongful conviction of five Black and Latino teenagers for the 1989 assault on a female jogger in Central Park. Ava DuVernay perfectly captures the anger and trauma of when Black people being seen and treated as criminals.

Watchmen

HBO's "comic book-inspired science fiction/drama series" opens with the Tulsa Race Massacre and examines race and policing in an alternate reality with superheroes, giant squids and reparations from the government.

Lovecraft Country

This HBO supernatural drama series will leave you shocked and confused, but, you'll get the hang of the story. Amid all the ghosts and fictional monsters, the series also shows the horrors of 1950s Jim Crow America like sundown towns.
