High school, college and NFL players have been showing their support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink gloves, towels, cleats and even uniforms.

And then there's Corbin (Ky.) sophomore cornerback Austin O'Neill, who, according to his coach, wore pink last Friday for the wrong reasons — to look cool and stand out.

Corbin coach Steve Jewell punished O'Neill for violating the team's dress code by making him run military style drills in practice on Monday.

O'Neill wore a pink towel and gloves to the game, but was told to remove his towel before kickoff. O'Neill sensed something was wrong and Jewell called him out for wearing pink gloves after the game.

"The coach told him he was not wearing them to support the cause, he was wearing those to look cool and stand out," Bob O'Neill, Austin's dad, told LEX 18 News.

Austin O'Neill said he was wearing pink in honor of his best friend's mother, who he considered "a second mom."

"[Coach Jewell] told me Friday you'll be lucky if I don't sit you on the bench," O'Neill said.

A spokesman for Corbin Independent Schools released a statement that an investigation of the incident was underway.
