    Reclamation awards more than $1M for Klamath Basin salmon recovery

    Reclamation’s Klamath River Coho Restoration Habitat Program area, a forested and mossy covered area.August 1, 2024 – The Bureau of Reclamation today announced four projects totaling more than $1 million to be awarded as part of two Klamath Basin Salmon Restoration grant programs. Reclamation is partnering with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to administer the programs. The awarded projects will generate over $2 million in matching contributions for a total conservation impact of more than $3 million. Flowing from the Oregon high desert to the redwood forest of the Northern California coast, the Klamath River boasts one of the most unique and productive watersheds in the Western United States.     Secretary Haaland Travels to Washington to Announce $16 Million from President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda for Drought Resilience in the Yakima River Basin

    July 24, 2024 – Secretary Haaland today concluded a multi-day visit to Washington to celebrate major progress in implementing President Biden’s Investing in America agenda to safeguard communities from increased threat of wildland fire and severe drought, restore ecosystems, and strengthen Tribal communities. During her visit, Secretary Haaland met with Tribal leaders from the Confederated Tribes of the Yakama Nation, Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and Puyallup Tribe, as well as Bureau of Indian Education-funded staff and personnel. On the heels of the devastating 1980 Slide Ranch Fire in late June, Secretary Haaland also met with more than 50 Yakama Nation firefighters to express the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to sharing resources, investing in resilience efforts, and prioritizing permanent pay reforms and increases for Tribal firefighters.     Interior Department Announces Next Steps to Implement President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda for Ecosystem and Habitat Restoration in the Upper Colorado River Basin

    July 22, 2024 – The Department of the Interior today announced a funding opportunity through President Biden’s Investing in America agenda for ecosystem and habitat restoration projects in the Upper Colorado River Basin that address impacts caused by drought. These funds will help increase community and landscape resiliency while restoring habitats and assisting in species recovery. These funds are made available through the Bureau of Reclamation from the Inflation Reduction Act—the largest ever investment in climate—for use in the Upper Basin States of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
