Albert Lee Hayes, age 91 of Cortland, OH, passed away on July 8th, 2024 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born in Edinboro, PA, on December 24, 1932, the son to the late Albert J. and Nora B. Forbes Hayes. Al graduated from Millcreek High School. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force, where he learned Technical Training, teaching him skills for his career as an Electronic Technician and his most cherished hobby, woodworking. He enjoyed making many types of boxes and various types of furniture. He was a member of organizations including the New York State Muzzle Loader Association, National Flintlock Association, and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was an avid black powder shooter. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, playing cards, especially progressive rummy, and watching old movies, such as comedies and musicals. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Betty Leuschen Hayes; his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Pentycofe Hayes; as well as a son, Randy L. Hayes. Albert is survived by a daughter, Lynne Hecker and her husband Paul, of West Edmeston, NY; daughter in law, Martha Cady and her husband Kevin; stepchildren, Rod Pentycofe and his wife Kathy, Lori Burrows and her husband Al, Elizabeth Herman and her husband Bob; as well as his best friend and companion, Dianna Neil. Al is further survived by many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. Friends and family may call at the Burton Quinn-Scott Funeral Home, West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St., Erie on Tuesday, July 16th from 11 until the time of service there at 1. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Colonial Williamsburg Fund, P.O.
