French fry poll: Which two Oneida County restaurants share top billing?
Almost everyone likes a good French fry.
French fries are great as a side – especially with its iconic partner, a burger. Fries are even great on their own.
This is even before we get into possible dipping sauces – especially ketchup for you purists.
So, we wanted to find out where people in the Mohawk Valley go to get their fix.
We looked to stay away from fast food establishments and any national or regional chain out there.
We wanted to know who, locally, makes the best French fries, according to the public.

Sitting at the top and sharing 21.16% of the total vote are Babes and One Genny.
Rounding out the top three is Carmella's, with 15.35% of the vote.
All three restaurants are in Oneida County.
Babes offers sweet potato and seasoned fries as options for its burgers and handheld items, according to the restaurants' online menu. The fries are add-on options, according to the menu, with the items typically coming with chips.
One Genny offers French fries with its burgers and many of its other subs and sandwiches, according to its online menu. The restaurant also offers chips as an alternative to French fries.
Both restaurants talked up their fries as being crispy, crunchy and golden. Babes also notes its "special seasoning."
About the poll
We started with 10 possible entrants, split between Oneida and Herkimer Counties. Other options were possible via email – though many suggestions included chain restaurants and places outside the Mohawk Valley.
Other Oneida County restaurants receiving votes included Tavern 42 and Nicky Doodles.
In Herkimer County, Asteroga Ale House, Crazy Ottos, Canal Side Restaurant, Pied Pipper and PKs Pub received votes.
A total of 241 people responded to the poll. Every restaurant involved earned at least five votes.
