Welcome to Vogue’s first-ever spa guide—a compendium of the 100 best spas worldwide, pulling from the expertise of our global editors. There is a lot out there in the world of wellness, and we are here to sort the cryo from the cold plunge, the infrared light treatment from the IV infusion. Or if your path is a more holistic one—there’s something for you here as well.

Why go here?

Set in the heart of Gstaad, Switzerland, Le Grand Bellevue is a postcard-picture destination for anyone seeking a luxury getaway. The name “Grand” aptly mirrors the grandeur of the historic hotel, which is surrounded by manicured grounds dotted with idyllic wood chalets that are a mountain-air haven come winter or summer.

What’s the vibe?

Time seemed to stand still during our stay as we relaxed in the spacious hotel room and explored the labyrinth of teal corridors of Gstaad’s oldest palace hotel. At 3,000 square meters, Le Grand Spa is one of the largest in the region and offers an unbelievable assortment of 17 different wellness “zones,” including an ice fountain, salt inhalation grotto, and a Turkish steam bath. When it comes to saunas, you can take your pick: herbal, bio, infrared, hay, or Finnish.

What should you try?

With its seemingly endless facilities, fragranced relaxation pools, and individually tailored wellness packages that focus on relaxation, it’s tempting to stay inside the spa. The Kneipp Walk (which involves walking through alternating hot and cold water therapy baths) is incredible for circulation and a wonder for ski-sore muscles, as are the hot-stone and deep-tissue massage treatments. Come summer, though, venture beyond the hotel walls and explore the skiing and hiking trails on your doorstep for breathtaking views and fresh mountain air.

How environmentally friendly is it?

The hotel is Positive Luxury–certified and Butterfly Mark–accredited, meeting the highest standards of verified innovation and environmental performance. It sources and uses local and organic products and produce, operating with 100% Swiss hydro-power.

What else do we need to know?

We extended our trip by traveling by train from Geneva through Lake Geneva to Gstaad. The chicest of journeys, the train has carriages that feature floor-to-ceiling wraparound windows, table service, and breathtaking Alpine views.

Who can go?

All are welcome at Le Grand Bellevue, with playrooms, a crèche, and babysitting services for families. Indulge in Leonard’s, the Grand Bellevue’s Michelin-awarded restaurant, or opt for a relaxed meal at Le Petit Chalet, a cheese-lover’s dream serving a never-ending assortment of raclette and fondue.
