Louisa Jacobson Publicly Coming Out on Her Mom Meryl’s 75th Birthday Is the Most Iconic Gift Ever

As someone often accused of having “reality-TV energy,” I absolutely love when a major piece of gossip comes to light on some completely unrelated occasion—and that’s exactly what transpired on Saturday, when The Gilded Age star Louisa Jacobson came out as a lesbian on what just happened to be her mother Meryl Streep’s 75th birthday.

In her sure-to-go-down-in-history coming-out dump (as I’d like to call it), Jacobson included a screenshot of a New York Times story titled “We’re Entering a Joyful New Era of Lesbian Fashion,” and captioned the post “blessed to be entering the Joyful New Era bb.” And if that weren’t enough to get the Very Online Queers screaming, Jacobson also posted a photo of herself with her partner, photo producer Anna Blundell. The fact that this all went down on Streep’s birthday is beyond iconic, but really, can you imagine a mom you’d rather come out to, birthday or no?

As a proud lesbian nepo baby myself (although, granted, one who can most definitely go to Trader Joe’s without being in any way noticed), I’d like to a) welcome Jacobson to the fold and b) encourage her to keep up the good work. Our dharma as gay daughters of straight women over 60 is simple; we keep them relevant and teach them who Chappell Roan is, and in exchange, they occasionally pay for dinner at Cafe Cluny, which is conveniently across the street from Cubbyhole. Word to the wise, Louisa; don’t invite your mom over to Cubbyhole to meet your friends after the check is paid. If my experience is any predictor, they’ll all like her better than you, and you’ll be the one dragging her out of the club once “Fast Car” comes on.
