What is the perfect morning routine? Social media is full of videos where people show their ideal start to the day. What almost all of them have in common is that they take at least one special drink, supplement or similar. The beauty world has a lot to offer on this front: lemon water, apple cider vinegar and collagen drinks are just a few viral examples. And you can believe me—as a beauty editor, I've tried quite a few of them. While almost all wellbeing trends have only lasted one phase, one thing has really caught my attention recently, ginger shots.

I used to only reach for the little immunity booster when I was worried about getting sick. But now it has become a permanent fixture in my morning routine. "The ginger root, which is so inconspicuous on the outside, hides a wide range of medically effective ingredients inside and is therefore a popular remedy in naturopathy," explains Dr. Roman Huber, head of the University Center for Naturopathy in Freiburg, in a publication.

Ginger has been used as a remedy in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. Ready-made ginger shots in the supermarket often lure you in with names such as "immunity booster shot" or similar, and rightly so. It is considered an antioxidant, is rich in essential oils and has an anti-inflammatory effect. These properties all contribute to a healthy immune system. Ginger also stimulates blood flow to the mucous membranes, which clears the nose clears quickly.

The argument that motivates me most to drink ginger shots every day is the increase in energy levels. The reason for this is the balancing effect on blood sugar levels, as well as an improved absorption of nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. As already mentioned, blood sugar spikes and drops are not beneficial for a steady energy level, but if the insulin level remains balanced, we have more energy, feel less tired and even our mood is improved. The intake of nutrients also gives the body an extra boost.

I drank a ginger shot every day for a month

After reading up on the many benefits of ginger shots, I knew I had to find out if there really was something to it. So I stocked up on ginger shots. On the very first morning, I notice that I feel fresh and awake after the little drink. Of course it burns a little in my mouth and throat but that's part of it. By the end of the first week, I was hooked on the fresh, energizing feeling they gave me. I found myself waking up faster and feeling more alert, both mentally and physically. This feeling stayed with me over the following weeks, and I even noticed that my usual afternoon cravings for sweets were less intense.

I have noticed these changes after one month

After a month of ginger shots everyday, I can't imagine starting my day without one. My energy levels have soared, making me much more productive and focused. Not to mention, my mood has improved noticeably—I no longer have those sluggish, tired days that put me in a bad mood. I've also noticed a boost in my immune system. Despite sitting next to a coworker with a cold, I haven't even had a hint of a scratchy throat. While I know ginger isn't a cure-all, it's certainly a powerful immune booster, especially during the winter months when colds are rampant.

You will benefit most from these advantages if you drink ginger shots regularly (preferably daily). The long-term effects such as an improved immune system and balanced blood sugar levels, sustained energy and improved mood are further enhanced by other healthy habits such as sufficient exercise, a balanced diet and adequate sleep.
