Not content to sit back and wait for someone to cast him in a blockbuster franchise adapted from a best-selling book, Kevin Costner is going to create the whole damn thing himself. For the first step the actor has signed a deal with Atria Books to release The Explorers Guild, Volume One: A Passage to Shambhala, a book about adventurers solving “mysteries that lie beyond the boundaries of the known world.” After the book’s release in 2014 Costner will produce a cartoon, in which he’ll do voices, and a feature film, in which he’ll star. The only thing left to chance is whether or not people will like what he’s doing — something Costner’s had a little trouble with in the past.
