Nightflyers, the Syfy series based on the George R.R. Martin novella, has been cancelled after just one season. While praised for its production value, that didn’t translate into Game of Thrones–level ratings, according to the Hollywood Reporter, with just 420,000 viewers for the season-one finale. The series was co-produced by Netflix and, as is the streaming giant’s way, released in one giant binge-able chunk back in December, and airing every night for a week on the network. But the strategy didn’t take, and even a Netflix release of the series on February 1 didn’t appear to help what was reportedly a very expensive show for the network. For his part, Martin was reportedly not that involved with the making of the series, because he’s very busy at HBO and also, one would think, writing books.
