Season two of House of the Dragon is basically Alicent Hightower asking, “Y’all wanna hear a story about why me & this princess here fell out?! It’s kinda long but full of suspense.” And according to Variety, 7.8 million viewers globally said “Yes.” The season-two premiere of HOTD had fewer viewers than its season-one debut but still managed to give Max its best streaming day overall. Which is especially good for such a child-murder-heavy plot. It was also Warner Bros. Discovery’s biggest season-two streaming premiere in Europe, where Max only recently launched.

House of the Dragon premiered with 10 million viewers in 2022, peaking with episode two and 10.2 million viewers. Despite Max’s big night, the show has seen a 20 percent drop in viewership. As the dragon war heats up (because of all the fire, get it?), we’ll see if more people tune in.
