The Oscars are film’s biggest night, and the Grammys are music’s, and the Met Gala is when fashion takes the stage. Granted, awards aren’t being handed out, but that’s only formally. Online, superlatives will fly around with wild abandon: best dressed, most on theme, biggest disappointment, etc. And so, while the 2024 Met Gala is May 6, many will be waiting for the next day to take in the deluge of posters on TikTok, Twitter, Insta, and wherever else exists to tell them what to think. But if you wanna judge everybody without external opinions you could also just … watch the red carpet live. Pick your poison! Where can I watch the red carpet?
The Met Gala red carpet will be livestreamed exclusively by Vogue. That includes on Vogue’s YouTube channel and on TikTok. This year’s carpet coverage will be hosted by Gwendoline Christie, LaLa Anthony, and Ashley Graham, which, yes, is a confusing trio. Interviews will be conducted by influencer and coffee-brand owner Emma Chamberlain, as Vogue’s “special correspondent.”
Remind me of the theme?
So there’s two answers to that question: The exhibit the Gala is celebrating is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” which celebrates garments that are too delicate to be worn again. The dress code is related, but not the same (which makes sense seeing as the garments are … too delicate to be worn again). Celebs and their associated fashion houses will be following the “Garden of Time” theme. Expect lots of leaves.
What time does it start?
The red-carpet stream begins at 6 p.m. ET on Monday, May 6.
Who’s going to be there?
The guest list is under wraps, but we do know that the co-chairs will be present. They include Anna Wintour (duh), Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny, and Zendaya, fresh off the Challengers press tour.
Will there be a strike?
Mere days before the event, the Condé Nast union was threatening to picket the Met Gala because the bosses at Vogue’s publisher wouldn’t agree on a contract. Luckily, in the early morning on the day of the event, the unionreached a tentative agreement with Condé, preventing the Met Gala from being picketed … this time.
