Pixar animators made a huge bet with Inside Out 2, at least that’s what they’ve told themselves to get into the headspace of the gambling-addicted gems dealer Howard Ratner in Uncut Gems. In an interview with Animation Magazine, director of layout photography Adam Habib explained how the A24 film’s shaky cinematography inspired its newest emotion, Anxiety (played by Maya Hawke). They explained that the team “built static sets during production and then put the digital characters inside those sets” and used a “virtual camera” to film the scenes, fully embodying the panic Ratner gives off whenever he breathes. However, why does the inspiration need to stop there? Is it too late to add Julia Fox as the emotion of Serenity? Or dare I pitch a new emotion: Slay.
