Marco Rubio fuels latest VP speculation with Trump rally in Florida

All eyes will be on Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) Tuesday when the short-list candidate for vice president will appear alongside former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally.

Rubio, one of a handful of vice presidential finalists, will attend Trump’s event Tuesday evening at his Doral golf club and resort near Miami, according to a source familiar with the matter. Trump could make an imminent announcement and reveal his choice in the coming days.

WHO IS MARCO RUBIO? MEET ONE OF THE EIGHT TOP NAMES ON TRUMP’S VP SHORT LIST

“By this time next Monday, we will know who President Trump has selected as his running mate for the 2024 Election,” senior Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller said Monday on Fox and Friends. “President Trump has some great choices. I really like all of the finalists. And it could happen anytime this week. Could happen literally right up until the first day of the convention.”

While there have been a number of other contenders, Trump is believed to have dwindled down the list to Rubio, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND).

However, Rubio would likely be required to move his residency outside of Florida due to constitutional restrictions barring presidential and vice presidential candidates from hailing from the same state. Trump, a lifelong New Yorker, became a Sunshine State resident in 2020.

Both Rubio and Vance hit the Sunday talk shows this weekend, saying neither has been told he’s been chosen.

“I heard nothing. I know nothing. You probably know more than I do about it,” Rubio said on CNN’s State of the Union. “Donald Trump has a decision to make. He’ll make it when he needs to make it. He’ll make a good decision.”

Vance said on NBC’s Meet the Press that he, too, has “not gotten the call.”

“But most importantly, we’re just trying to work to elect Donald Trump,” he said.

Trump will hold a second campaign rally this week on Saturday in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, which borders Vance’s home state of Ohio.

The Republican National Convention begins July 15 in Milwaukee. Trump is expected to announce his running mate before or during the event, a revelation that would come as Democrats grapple with the deterioration in support for President Joe Biden amid concerns about his mental fitness.
