HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A woman is facing murder charges after an early-morning shooting.

Cabell County Sheriff Chuck Zerkle said around 12:30 a.m. Cabell County 911 received a call from a woman that said she shot her brother in the head.

When deputies arrived at the home on Charley’s Creek in Culloden, they found Seira Harmon, who told them she had shot her brother William Harmon in the head during a family dispute.

William Harmon died from his injuries.

According to the criminal complaint, Harmon told deputies that her brother had her fiancé at gunpoint and that she believed her gun was on safe. Harmon told deputies that the shooting was an accident.

“It was late/early morning hours, some impairment was involved. Things just didn’t add up and she was charged with first-degree murder,” Sheriff Zerkle said. “The proximity of the wound, where he was shot and some other factors led us to believe that we weren’t getting the whole story.”

Seira Harmon is in custody at the Western Regional Jail on the first-degree murder charge.
