Will not seat you until entire party is present
Promptly greeted,
Service was excellent, friendly, able to articulate menu quite easily.
Multiple tables, nothing too fancy, but has everything you need.
Pimento cheese plate has pickled squash, pickle, cucumbers, deviled, eggs, , like those crackers with Prometo cheese excellent special tonight included soy sauce, mushrooms, all great appetizers all home made I believe
PO Boy shrimp and roasted pork, extremely tasteful,, delicious fries are crispy and tasty. Coleslaw substituted for fries and lightly creamy with vinegar taste. It was excellent.
Dessert tonight
Peach Pecan Crumble pie ok not much flavor for my taste
Grapefruit ice Box Pie which is like a lemon meringue, but grapefruit instead excellent, light , deliciousHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 12770Aug 2, 2024
This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Uptown - I've tried nearly everything on the menu. Fav items are the smoked chicken and slow roasted pork, but their specials are also usually worth trying.
Only complaint is that it seems like they never have the black bottom peanut pie anymore - craving it always!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 13, 2024
This was a first time visit to High Hat Cafe, but it is definitely the first of many more visits to come!
I selected the restaurant to start my wife's Mother's Day with a nice brunch. Although the restaurant was very busy, we were seated at a nice table with a window view without a wait.
Our waitress came over quickly with water and cutlery, and commenced to review the menu. We decided to start with the White Sangria which was simply amazing. It had a slightly sweet taste, with a slightly spicy finish.
For our meal, I ordered the barbecue bacon burger (everything is incredible when bacon is added) that was accompanied by fresh cut fries. The thick burger was cooked to perfection (medium well), then topped with a few strips of crispy bacon, lettuce and tomato. The bottom portion of the bun had a dollop of barbecue sauce that was delicious. Folks, my plate didn't need washed when I finished my meal!
My wife had the cornmeal pancakes which were 3 fluffy pancakes with crispy edges....yes, I "sampled" them (ROTFL). The plate was completed with scrambled eggs. She substituted okra and tomatoes for the bacon....who does that? I don't eat okra, but she gave the okra and tomatoes high marks.
If you're in the Freret Street area and hungry, stop in the High Hat Cafe. Deliciousness and satisfaction awaits you!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 28, 2024
Decided to visit this spot since other spots had a 2 hour wait. We were seated immediately and they put together a table for 8 right away. Customer service started off amazing but got terrible towards the end. Our waitress seemed to have a attitude and kept disappearing. The food was mediocre..but the skin on that chicken.... NICE!!!! I have to be honest and say I expected more from New Orleans but it wasn't terrible.

Service was great but the food was highly disappointing. I had the Shrimp PoBoy and fries. The fries were good, somewhat typical so no complaints there but the shrimp were so overcooked they had the driest and most rubbery texture.
The place was clean but definitely not good for large groups (anything over 4 people).Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nov 5, 2023
I had higher hopes for this place. The service was very good. From the hostess to the bartender to the waitress, everyone was pleasant. I enjoyed the ambiance, but I didn't feel the food blew me away. I think Bearcat across te street may be the way to go. I had read about the catfish being amazing and it was good but nothing to write an awesome yelp review over. I did competely enjoy the super good hot irish coffee at the bar. The regular coffee was pretty good too. And again, really enjoyed the ambience and the bar area in general. The vibe is just a nice uptown diner style with decent prices. I may come back for those hot irish coffees and drinks in general.
The location has off street parking and it is medium in size I would say. I don't think they take reservations either.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 16, 2024
I've been going to HH for many years, and while my visits are spaced out at times, each visit reminds me why I enjoy coming here. The quality of food and portions remains high. The cocktails are top notch and the service is neighborhood friendly. My last visit was post brunch, after working my own shift and I was really craving soup but I got suckered in by the Reuben and fries. Killer ranch too! Totally satiated with intentions to return sooner than later.

Delicious black eyed peas and collard greens. not full of grease or meat. I would definitely come back to try other menu items. Fast, friendly to-go service.

Excellent... We dropped in after playing a few rounds of tennis at Audubon Park... My husband had the high hat burger and loved it although it was an awfully big burger... And I had the catfish Poboy, which is the best Poboy I've had since being in New Orleans for the past two weeks!! Loved it. The fish was light and fresh and crispy. The french fries were also piping hot, which makes us both very happy. I did ask for the white rod sauce on the side, which was really good with my fries and the catfish Poboy.
