CAST: Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson, Danny DeVito

RATING: TV-MA

DESCRIPTION: What better way to lavish in your intoxication than by doing so whilst watching a show that revolves around a pub? Also, you can take comfort in the fact that no matter what kind of drunk you may be, you’re still probably nowhere near as contemptible as the five narcissistic, sociopathic friends at the center of this cult favorite sitcom. Together, The Gang owns Philadelphia-based Irish bar Paddy’s Pub, using it as a base for hatching elaborate schemes, inflicting emotional, mental, and physical pain on one another (and on others), and, naturally, taking in excessive amounts of alcohol and drugs.

CAST: Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O’Brien, Patricia Quinn, Nell Campbell, Jonathan Adams, Peter Hinwood, Meat Loaf, Charles Gray

RATING: R

DESCRIPTION: This 1975 musical comedy-horror is already a ton of fun while sober, but really gets taken to the next level if you watch it intoxicated (even more so if you see it with a group of friends or at some sort of midnight showing). Delightfully camp and unabashedly outrageous, The Rocky Horror Picture Show starts with the classic horror trope of an innocent and all-American young couple, recently engaged Brad Majors (Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Sarandon) finding themselves stranded at a creepy mansion.

But from there, it quickly becomes clear that this film is like nothing you’ve seen before, as transvestite scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Curry) welcomes them inside to a world of debauchery, mayhem, and colorful characters that combine to corrupt, mess with, and liberate them, culminating in an unforgettable and extremely entertaining viewing experience.

'Family Guy'

Family Guy
Everett Collection

CAST: Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mila Kunis, Patrick Warburton, Mike Henry, Arif Zahir

Adult animated sitcom Family Guy is the brainchild of Seth MacFarlane, who also voices the titular “family guy,” endearingly oafish Peter Griffin, who, alongside his stay-at-home wife Lois (Borstein), helm the Griffin family. Together, they and their three kids Meg (Kunis), Chris (Green), and Stewie (MacFarlane), alongside their talking dog, Brian (also MacFarlane), get into all sorts of mishaps and adventures in and around their hometown of Quahog, Rhode Island. Superbad
Photo: Everett Collection

CAST: Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, Emma Stone, Martha MacIsaac, Aviva Baumann, Joe Lo Truglio, Kevin Corrigan, Dave Franco, Martin Starr

RATING: R

DESCRIPTION: When a movie essentially launches the careers of several current big names in the biz, you know it’s gotta be worth watching, even more so when it’s as sidesplitting as this one.  2007 coming-of-age teen buddy comedy Superbad revolves around childhood best friends Seth (Hill) and Evan (Cera) who, alongside nerdy friend Fogell (Mintz-Plasse) hope to use their final weeks at high school to kickstart their sex lives and make memories at their first and last big house party before going their separate ways to different colleges.

But between struggling to acquire alcohol, trying to balance a budding romance with an increasingly tested friendship, and being adopted by two “cool” cops (Hader and Rogen), there’s a lot that’s making things difficult along the way. Drunk or not, it’s an utter delight, but a few drinks in and you’ll especially feel like you’re kicking it with these lovable dorks through all of their incredible (and sometimes very embarrassing) exploits.

'The Bachelor'

bachelor
Photo: ABC

CAST: Chris Harrison, Jesse Palmer

RATING: TV-14

DESCRIPTION: Let’s be honest: The Bachelor was probably MEANT to be watched while blitzed out of your mind. It sure does make it more fun, at least, as you yell at the TV to your heart’s content according to whatever cringe-worthy moments and delicious drama unfolds before your very eyes. There’s no denying that, for better or for worse, this ABC dating series is a huge hit, with 26 seasons and counting, in addition to several successful spin-offs, culminating in a franchise whose scope and name-recognition perhaps even rival the MCU (or maybe not, but they certainly both are pretty dang universally well-known).

This series that started it all, though, follows a single bachelor who goes on a series of group and individual dates with a pool of eligible women, eliminating at least one each week in order to work towards ending up with the one to whom he will propose. Of course, it typically isn’t such straight-forward smooth sailing, but that’s just part of what makes it such wonderful wasted viewing. No matter how messy you feel, someone on The Bachelor is likely worse.

'Grease'

Grease
IMDb Rating: 7.2
Those summer nights may be far away, but if you want to remember a time when John Travolta wasn't the plastic-faced attorney on The People vs. OJ Simpson, look no further. While the ending here may be questionable (Sandy, you don't have to change yourself for a man, girl!), the one-liners and often hilarious musical numbers make this a classic. [Stream Grease]

CAST: John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Jeff Conaway, Stockard Channing, Didi Conn, Barry Pearl, Eddie Deezen, Susan Buckner, Lorenzo Lamas, Eve Arden, Dody Goodman, Sid Caesar

RATING: PG

DESCRIPTION: If you’re the kind of drunk who looks for any reason to start singing, then you’ll love getting intoxicated to watch Grease. RATING: TV-MA

DESCRIPTION: This already-entertaining Canadian mocumentary sitcom is further enhanced by a few brewskis down the hatch. Trailer Park Boys takes place in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia at the fictional Sunnyvale Trailer Park, where friends Ricky (Wells), Julian (Tremblay), and Bubbles (Smith) reside. Together, the three concoct capers to get rich quickly, often fabulously failing in their attempts and even ending up in and out of jail or otherwise on the run from law enforcement. The boys have their fair share of enemies, but they’ve still got each other through it all in addition to other zany characters also living in the trailer park. Sounds like a show worth watching, eh?

'The Room'

Photo: Wiseau Films

CAST: Tommy Wiseau, Juliette Danielle, Greg Sestero, Philip Haldiman, Carolyn Minnott

RATING: R

DESCRIPTION: The thing about The Room is that the drunker you are, the better it is. Is that a sign of a well-made piece of cinema? Probably not. But it IS pretty darn entertaining and insane, with endlessly quotable lines and nonstop nonsense so absurd you won’t believe your eyes and ears, this 2003 drama film written, directed, executive produced by and starring Tommy Wiseau is truly the blueprint for “so bad it’s good.”

Where to watch The Room

Wiseau plays a successful banker named Johnny whose life is turned upside down when his fiancée, Lisa (Danielle), suddenly gets bored with him and therefore decides to spice things up by cheating on Johnny with his best bud, Mark (Sestero). We can’t do it much justice beyond that, The Room is just something you need to see to believe (and even then you may not believe it). The movie itself reads as a drunken hallucination, so just lean into that feeling by boozing it up before finding out why Mark and Lisa betrayed our beloved Johnny and to watch a lot of awkward sex scenes and football tossing.
