‘A Wrinkle In Time’
Full disclosure: I was unable to watch the trailer for A Wrinkle in Time, the adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s novel by Ava DuVernay, without crying. But trailers are one thing; movies are another. Unless, of course, you’re talking about this movie, which is pure, raw emotion from the opening frame to its closing moments. Ostensibly a story about a girl racing across the universe to save her father (Chris Pine) from growing darkness, A Wrinkle in Time eschews big budget battles for moments of connection between humans. The visuals are superb, and there are theme park elements (one sequence where Reese Witherspoon’s character turns into a sort of flying leaf bug thing comes to mind). But for the most part this is a small story about love overcoming hate. There are plenty of movies you can watch about people in tights beating each other up, and punches take down buildings. Treat yourself and your family to a film where a hug from your father is the most important and powerful thing in the universe.
