‘Babe’
The other day I was looking for a movie to watch with my whole family, and came across Babe. I told my four-year-old that he would love it, it was about a talking pig who becomes friends with a farmer, and thinks he’s a dog. My son refused to watch the movie, because, “it has animals that are dangerous for pigs!” Confused, I asked him what animals he meant. “Horses!” he said. Here’s what I’ll tell you: 1) horses are not dangerous for pigs, I don’t know what my son was talking about; and 2) Babe is one of the most charming, earnestly delightful movies that’s ever been made. Christine Cavanuagh brilliantly portrays the titular pig, James Cromwell plays a stoic farmer whose heart warms to Babe with aplomb (and includes a standout musical performance), and you’ll fall in love with the movie from the first frame to the last. A must-watch for the whole family, except my son who runs out of the room every time I suggest it.
