‘Big’
Never before has a piano performance of “Chopsticks” been as brilliant as the one in Big. Penny Marshall’s classic film follows Josh Baskin, a kid tired of feeling tiny and worthless. After complaining to the magical Zoltar machine, he becomes the hunky, older version of himself. Older Josh, played by Tom Hanks, must now navigate the terrors of adulthood, like finding a job and renting an apartment. Hanks’ performance as a childish grown-up is heartwarming. At only 10 years old, actress Marsai Martin was so inspired by Big that she came up with the idea for Little, a reversed version of the original. Big is one of the best — and by far most literal — coming-of-age movies out there.
