‘Clueless’
My philosophy in life is that it’s never a bad time to rewatch Clueless. Or, if you’ve somehow gone this long without ever having watched it, it’s never a bad time to check out Clueless for the first time. Had a bad day? Fire up Paramount+ and lose yourself in Amy Heckerling’s sublime modern Jane Austen adaptation for 97 minutes. Alicia Silverstone leads the movie as Cher Horowitz, the “Emma” figure who can argue her way out of anything, do a mean makeover, and matchmake like it’s nobody’s business. Need to laugh? Silverstone, Donald Faison, and the late, great Brittany Murphy have your back with some truly inspired line readings — I am always, always thinking about Murphy with tears rolling down her cheeks as she sings “Rollin’ With My Homies.” Looking for romance? Three words: young Paul Rudd. Rudd and Silverstone’s chemistry is electric from the first time they share the screen, and they build on it so perfectly until they’re both finally on the same page about what they’re feeling.
