‘Dead Poets Society’
From Dead Poets Society to “The Tortured Poets Department”… last week, Taylor Swift dropped the first music video from her new album and it featured none other than two of Welton Academy’s finest, Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles, with nods to their characters from the hit 1989 film. So, I thought there’s no better time to revisit Dead Poets Society, which is, among other things, a great go-to crying movie — it actually makes a nice movie pairing for Swift’s new album. Dead Poets Society stars the late, great Robin Williams as an English teacher at an all-boys boarding school who uses poetry to inspire a group of students to strive for greater things. Among them are Hawke as painfully shy new kid Todd Anderson, Charles as hopelessly romantic Knox Overstreet, and Robert Sean Leonard as Neil Perry, the student most inspired by his new teacher who also has the most to lose. Dead Poets Society is one of those movies that’ll have you feeling the full range of human emotions throughout the 2 hour and 8 minute runtime.
