‘Descendants’
Watching The School for Good and Evil, Netflix’s new YA fantasy franchise hopeful, I was consumed by one thought and one thought alone: God, I wish I were watching Descendants right now. And no, I don’t mean that vaguely racist George Clooney movie. I’m talking about the made-for-TV, Kenny Ortega-directed, musical masterpiece starring pop sensation Dove Cameron. Here’s the thing: Both School for Good and Evil and Descendants riff on the concept of children of fairytale villains and heroes, but Descendants just does it so much better. Sure, the Disney Channel Original Movie production budget makes the movie look like, well, a Disney Channel Original Movie, but the songs are bangers and the misfits-finding-each-other story is one for the ages. And the Kenny Ortega choreography? Unparalleled, as always.
