‘Downton Abbey’ (The Movie)
The Downton Abbey movie is exactly the escape you need right now. Set two years after the show’s series finale, the Crawleys need all hands on deck to entertain the royal family at Downton. Carson (Jim Carter) comes out of retirement, the happily married Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) returns home, and everyone’s spirits are high. Of course, drama soon ensures. But it’s drama in the least stressful definition of the word. Full of spectacular costumes and dreamy decadence, the Downton Abbey movie is the exact kind of film you’ll want to watch again and again. (Even though I’m bummed that writer Julian Fellowes didn’t find a way to get more of the original cast back for this big outing.)
