‘El Conde’
In El Conde, Pablo Larraìn tackles Augusto Pinochet, the dictator who ruled over Chile throughout the 70s and 80s. But, in Larraìn’s tale, Pinochet is portrayed as a vampire who has finally decided to die after living for almost 250 years. That is, until a mysterious accountant makes him rethink his life and mortality, much to the chagrin of his family. What results is a gratuitously gory, satirical horror that plays with the audience’s knowledge on history and vampires. You’ve never seen vampires like this.
