‘Empire Records’
The 1995 coming-of-age musical comedy Empire Records is one of the most under-appreciated movies of the ’90s. Following a day in the lives of a group of misfit employees at an independent record store, the film boasts a killer soundtrack and an abundance of future stars (Liv Tyler, Renee Zellweger, Robin Tunney, Ethan Embry, and Debi Mazar, to name a few). A cult favorite that’s so much better than its lousy Rotten Tomatoes score, Empire Records brilliantly captures the guileless optimism of youth. Celebrate the new year (and Rex Manning Day!) by streaming this ’90s indie on Netflix.
